INTRODUCTION

The Kenyan health sector enjoyed a period of unprecedented growth and diversification during the last one year. Devolution of the service took root even as most counties focussed on efficient and quality health care delivery. At the national stage, the Government implemented big signature projects like the Kshs38 billion diagnostic equipment lease for counties. Since the health service provision is devolved, it implies service provision and management is now primarily a function of the County governments.

The health sector has instituted a process to monitor sector performance, which focuses on monitoring the achievements against planned targets for different services and indicators. There has been in-depth and innovative ways of identifying areas of focus in order to attain the desired health goals not only for the County Governments but also for the country at large.
